Music Therapy

What is Music Therapy?

According to the British Association for Music Therapy (BAMT), music therapy is “an established psychological clinical intervention, delivered by HCPC registered music therapists to help people whose lives have been affected by injury, illness or disability through supporting their psychological, emotional, cognitive, physical, communicative and social needs.”

How Music Therapy Helps

Beyond the definition, music therapy is about harnessing the power of music to:

  • Spark joy and creativity
  • Build meaningful connections and relationships
  • Support mental health and emotional resilience
  • Encourage physical healing and rehabilitation
  • Strengthen motor skills and coordination
  • Improve memory, focus, and learning
  • Provide healthy outlets for self-expression
  • Reduce stress, anxiety, and overwhelm
  • Create safe spaces for healing, growth, and reflection

Music therapy supports children, young people, adults, and older adults in schools, hospitals, care homes, and community settings. Whether through singing, playing instruments, songwriting, or listening together, music therapy adapts to each person — helping them explore, express, and move forward.

My Approach

As a qualified Music Therapist in South Wales, my work is rooted in a person-centred, trauma-informed practice. Every session is tailored to the individual, supporting their unique journey through music.

I draw on additional training in trauma-informed coaching, polyvagal theory, and autistic support. With my background in voice work, I also specialise in the use of the voice for expression, rehabilitation, and recovery — helping clients reconnect with their breath, body, and sense of self.

Whether working with children, young people, or adults, I create a safe, supportive environment where music becomes a tool for healing, growth, and connection.

Professional Standards

I am a fully qualified and HCPC-registered Music Therapist, regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) ensuring the highest professional and ethical standards.

I am also a member of the British Association for Music Therapy (BAMT) and SoundSense, and I hold full professional insurance. These memberships connect me with a network of practitioners, ongoing professional development, and the latest research — allowing me to bring the best, most up-to-date practice to those I work with.
